Haridwar Kumbh 2027: a marketing plan for tour operators and travel agents
By AnyInfraTech Team ·
The Haridwar Kumbh 2027 runs from 14 January to 20 April 2027, as finalised by the Akhara Parishad. For a tour operator in Haridwar, Rishikesh or Dehradun, or a travel agent in Ahmedabad, Indore or Kolkata who sends pilgrim groups north, that is a three-month selling window with a lot of competition and very little room for mistakes.
This plan covers the marketing side of Kumbh Mela 2027 for tour operators and travel agents: which packages to build, what to put on your website, when to start ads, and how to keep up with enquiries once January arrives. Hotels and dharamshalas have a separate Kumbh checklist for Haridwar properties.
Kumbh or Ardh Kumbh? Use both names
Haridwar held a full Kumbh in 2021, so the 2027 Mela comes six years later. You'll see it called Ardh Kumbh in some places and Kumbh in others, including in official announcements. Pilgrims search both ways. Put both names in your page copy once, in a natural sentence, and use whichever the official notification uses in your headings.
Don't confuse it with the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha, which is also in 2027 but later in the year. If you sell both, give each its own page. Mixing them on one page confuses Google and the customer.
Build packages around real questions
Most Kumbh enquiries come from families and groups, many with parents or grandparents. They ask the same things every time: how far the room is from the ghat, how much walking there will be, whether vehicles can get close on bathing days, and what happens if the train is late. Build your packages so the page answers those questions before the call.
Packages that tend to make sense:
- Snan packages of 1 or 2 nights timed around a main bathing date, for people who only want the holy dip
- Senior citizen packages with a ground-floor room, wheelchair or e-rickshaw help where available, and a fixed point where the group meets
- Haridwar and Rishikesh together, with Ganga aarti at Har Ki Pauri and Triveni Ghat, for families with four or five days
- Kumbh with the winter Char Dham seats, such as Ukhimath for Kedarnath or Pandukeshwar for Badrinath, for the few who want more. Our guide to winter Char Dham marketing covers that circuit. The four main temples usually open in late April or May, after the Mela ends, so don't advertise a combined Kumbh and Char Dham trip until the opening dates are announced.
One hub page, then a page per package
A single page titled "Kumbh Mela 2027 packages" won't rank on its own against the large portals. What does work for a smaller operator is a clear hub page plus one page per package, each aimed at a narrower search:
- Haridwar Kumbh 2027 package from Ahmedabad by train
- Kumbh snan package for senior citizens
- Haridwar Rishikesh Kumbh tour 3 nights
Each package page needs the itinerary day by day, the hotel name or category and its distance from the ghats, what is and isn't included, the price or a price range, and your cancellation terms.
A word of caution on departure-city pages. A page for "Kumbh package from Ahmedabad" is useful when the train, the timings and the pickup really differ. Twenty copies of one page with the city name swapped out is what Google calls a doorway page, and it can pull the whole site down. Make city pages only for the cities your groups come from, and make each one different.
Bathing dates: quote only the official list
The main snan and Amrit Snan dates are announced by the Mela administration. Several travel sites already list dates for 2027, and they don't agree with each other. If you print the wrong date on a package and a group books around it, the cost lands on you.
Until the official notification is out, write "dates as per the Mela administration notification" on your pages. When it is published, update every package page on the same day and link to the source. Pages that are updated quickly and accurately also tend to do better in search than pages that copied an early guess.
Lock your hotel rooms before you advertise
The fastest way to lose money in a Kumbh season is to sell packages you can't fulfil. Before you spend on ads:
- Get written room blocks from your Haridwar and Rishikesh hotels, with dates, rates and a release date
- Keep a backup property in Rishikesh or Jwalapur for overflow
- Agree in writing what happens if the administration changes traffic or access plans near your hotel
If you need verified rooms in Haridwar and Rishikesh, properties listed on Pulp Hotels, which we run, are worth a look alongside your usual partners.
When to start ads
Search interest for Kumbh packages builds slowly through the autumn and climbs sharply once the bathing dates are public. A sensible order:
- October to November: pages live, Google Business Profile updated, small search campaigns on your exact package phrases to see which ones bring enquiries
- December: raise budgets on the phrases that worked, and add Meta ads aimed at the states your groups come from
- January to April: run ads around each main bathing date, and pause the ones for dates that are already full
Keep the ad text factual. Phrases like "VIP snan" or "guaranteed ghat access" invite complaints, and the Mela administration controls ghat access, not you.
Answer WhatsApp in minutes
During the Mela, most of your leads will come in on WhatsApp, often late at night, and often from someone comparing three operators at once. The one who replies first with a clear quote usually gets the booking.
- Set an auto-reply with your package list, a short price guide and your office location
- Log every enquiry with travel dates, group size and the city they're coming from, so nobody gets forgotten
- Send a written confirmation for every booking, with dates, hotel, amount paid and the cancellation terms
Our own WhatsApp platform, auton8n, handles the auto-replies and a shared inbox, and a travel CRM keeps the follow-ups in one place. A spreadsheet works too if you check it every day.
Show pilgrims you are real
Fake booking sites appear at every big Mela, and pilgrims know it. Make it easy to check you:
- Your office address on Google Maps, with photos of the office and your vehicles
- GST, tourism department registration or IATA details, where you have them
- Reviews from past groups, ideally with photos from earlier Char Dham or Haridwar trips
- A landline or WhatsApp number that a person answers
After the Mela
Kumbh groups are often first-time customers. Ask for a review on the last day, keep their contact details with permission, and tell them about your Char Dham 2027 packages before the temples open. Many families who come for the Kumbh are back in the hills within a year or two.
