Christmas 2026 and New Year bookings: a plan for Mussoorie, Nainital and hill-station hotels

By AnyInfraTech Team ·

Ask any hotel owner on Camel's Back Road or Mall Road Nainital and they'll say the same thing: the 24th to the 1st sells itself. Families from Delhi NCR, Chandigarh and Lucknow want a hill station for Christmas and New Year, and the good rooms go first.

So why plan at all? Because "sells itself" usually means "sells on OTAs". The guest finds you on an app, pays a commission-heavy rate, and you never get their number for next year. New Year hotel marketing in Mussoorie, Nainital or any Uttarakhand hill station is about moving more of that demand to your own website and WhatsApp, and about filling the nights around the peak, which do not sell themselves.

This plan starts in late October. If you're reading it later, skip to the week you're in.

Late October: decide what you're selling

Write down your December inventory before you write a single post.

  • Peak nights (roughly 24 Dec to 1 Jan). Decide the minimum stay. Many properties ask for two or three nights over 31 December. Say it clearly on your site so nobody is surprised at checkout.
  • Shoulder nights (mid-December, and the first week of January). These are the ones to market. Schools in many north Indian states close for winter around this time, so families with flexible dates are your audience.
  • The New Year's Eve package. Room, dinner, bonfire, music, breakfast on the 1st. Price it as one number per couple or per family, and list what is included and what is not. Guests compare packages line by line on WhatsApp.

Keep OTA allocation in mind. If you close rooms on OTAs too late, you'll be left with direct enquiries you can't confirm. A simple rule: decide by mid-November how many peak rooms stay on OTAs and how many you hold back for direct and repeat guests.

Early November: fix the pages guests check

Most Christmas and New Year searches happen on phones, and most of them end on Google Maps or Instagram, not on a long website.

  1. Google Business Profile. Update winter photos (fog, bonfire, a lit-up lawn, the view on a clear morning), add the New Year package as an offer post, and check your hours, phone number and WhatsApp link. Our Google Business Profile guide for Uttarakhand hotels goes step by step.
  2. A New Year page on your website. One page, at a URL with no year in it, like /new-year-package. Show the package, the minimum stay, the cancellation rule, parking, heating and how far you are from the Mall. Update the text each year and keep the URL. A page that has existed for three winters ranks better than a fresh one every December.
  3. Answer the winter questions. Is there a heater or a geyser in every room? Is parking inside the property? Can an SUV reach you if it snows? Do you allow pets? Families ask these on WhatsApp again and again, so put them on the page.

If your site can't take a booking or a deposit online, December is a costly time to find out. A direct booking engine or even a simple payment link sent on WhatsApp is enough for most homestays.

Mid-November: past guests first

Your cheapest bookings come from people who have stayed with you before. Send them the New Year package before anyone else sees it, with a small thank-you, like an early-bird rate or a free late checkout.

Send it on WhatsApp, but only to guests who agreed to hear from you, and use an approved template if you're on the WhatsApp Business API. Platforms like our auton8n let you send to a saved list and see who read it, so your front desk can call the warm ones.

Late November to mid-December: ads and reels

Paid ads make sense for the shoulder nights, not for the 31st. Run small Google and Meta campaigns for "Christmas stay in Mussoorie with family" or "Nainital hotel for New Year with bonfire", pointed at your New Year page, not your home page.

On Instagram, short reels work better than polished photos. A 15-second clip of the bonfire area at night, the room heater switching on, or the view from the balcony at 7 a.m. says more than a caption. Post one or two a week from mid-November, then more often in December.

Be honest about snow. Mussoorie, Dhanaulti and Kanatal can get snowfall in winter, but nobody can promise it for a given date. "Snow is never guaranteed, but our fireplace is" is better than a stock photo of a white lawn you can't deliver.

December: answer fast, confirm in writing

In the last two weeks, speed decides who gets the booking. A family sends the same message to five hotels. The first one to reply with a clear price, photos and a payment link usually wins.

  • Set up WhatsApp quick replies for the package, the cancellation rule and the directions.
  • Send a written confirmation with dates, guests, amount paid and balance due.
  • Share local traffic advice a day before arrival. Mussoorie and Nainital often see heavy traffic and route changes around New Year, so point guests to the district police or administration updates rather than guessing.

If you run the property with a small team, a CRM with WhatsApp stops enquiries getting lost between two phones.

January: keep the guests you just met

The week after New Year is when most hotels go quiet. Use it.

  • Ask every direct guest for a Google review within a day or two of checkout.
  • Save their details, with consent, so next year's package goes to them first.
  • Write down what sold out first and what didn't. That note is your plan for next December.

Some guests also ask about the snow months that follow. Places like Auli and Chopta keep winter demand going into January and February, and some Char Dham operators now sell winter yatra trips too, which can bring tour groups through Dehradun and Rishikesh.

A short checklist

  • Peak and shoulder nights and minimum stay decided
  • OTA vs direct allocation fixed by mid-November
  • New Year page live at an evergreen URL
  • Google profile updated with winter photos and an offer post
  • Past guests messaged before public promotion
  • Shoulder-night ads pointed at the New Year page
  • WhatsApp quick replies and payment link ready
  • Review request and guest list saved in January
