Google Business Profile for hotels and tour operators in Uttarakhand: a complete setup guide

By AnyInfraTech Team · · Updated 12 Oct 2026

When someone searches "hotel in Harsil", "homestay near Mussoorie" or "Char Dham tour operator in Haridwar", the first thing they see is usually the map with business listings, not websites. That listing is your Google Business Profile (earlier called Google My Business), and for many local businesses it drives more calls and direction requests than the website.

Set it up properly with the steps below.

1. Claim and verify the right listing

Search your business name on Google Maps. If a listing exists, claim it; if not, create one at business.google.com. Google verifies ownership by video, phone, SMS, email or postcard depending on the business, follow whatever it offers you.

One business, one listing. Duplicate listings split your reviews and confuse Google. If you have duplicates, ask Google support to merge or remove them.

2. Pick the right primary category

The primary category is the single most important setting. Choose the one that describes what you are, not what you'd like to rank for:

  • Hotels and resorts: "Hotel", "Resort hotel"
  • Homestays: "Guest house" or "Bed & breakfast" (whichever fits best)
  • Tour operators: "Tour operator" or "Travel agency"
  • Yoga centres: "Yoga retreat centre" or "Yoga studio"

Add a few accurate secondary categories, but don't stuff unrelated ones.

3. Get the basics exactly right

  • Name: your real business name, no added keywords or locations
  • Address & pin: drag the map pin to the exact entrance, important in the hills
  • Phone & WhatsApp: a number that is answered
  • Website: link to your homepage (or the right location page)
  • Hours: including seasonal hours and holidays

Keep the name, address and phone identical on your website and directories.

4. Photos that answer questions

Upload real, recent photos: exterior and approach road, parking, rooms and bathrooms, views, food, your vehicles and team. Pilgrims and families want to know what they're getting, real photos build trust faster than any description.

5. Reviews: ask, reply, never buy

  • Ask every happy guest for a review, a short WhatsApp message with your review link after check-out works well.
  • Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and specifically.
  • Never buy or fake reviews, and don't offer discounts in exchange, it breaks Google's policies and can get reviews removed or the profile suspended.

6. Posts, offers and updates

Use posts for seasonal updates: yatra season opening, new packages, festival offers, road and weather updates. Fresh, useful posts keep your profile active.

7. Connect it to bookings

Make it easy to act: a clear booking link or WhatsApp. For hotels, Google can also show room prices from connected booking channels on the listing; keep your rates consistent across channels.

Common mistakes we see in Uttarakhand

  • Wrong category (we've seen hotels listed as "Architect" or "Real estate")
  • Map pin on the main road instead of the property
  • Phone numbers that nobody answers in season
  • No replies to reviews
  • Old photos from years ago

Measure it

Your profile shows calls, direction requests and website clicks. Check them monthly, they're often the clearest sign that local SEO is working.
