What guests need from a hotel website in Uttarakhand: a page-by-page checklist
By AnyInfraTech Team · · Updated 12 Oct 2026
Most hotel websites in Uttarakhand are built to impress the owner. Big slider on the homepage, drone video, a "Welcome to our property" paragraph. The guest, meanwhile, is standing at a dhaba in Barkot with one bar of signal, trying to find out whether you have parking for a Tempo Traveller and whether the room has a geyser.
This guide is about designing for that guest. It is written for hotel, homestay and resort owners in Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Haridwar and along the Char Dham route, but most of it applies to any hill-state property.
If you want the broader picture of getting more direct bookings (Google profile, OTAs, repeat guests), read our earlier piece on direct hotel bookings in Uttarakhand. This article sticks to the website itself, what to put on it, page by page.
1. Design for slow mobile data first
Large parts of the Char Dham route and the hill towns have weak or congested mobile networks, especially in peak season when thousands of pilgrims share the same towers. Your website has to load on those connections.
What that means in practice:
- Compress every photo. Serve modern formats (WebP or AVIF) at the size they are displayed, not the 8 MB file from the camera.
- Drop the autoplay video and homepage slider. One strong photo of your best room or view does more work and loads in a fraction of the time.
- Keep scripts light. Every chat widget, tracking pixel and plugin adds weight. Keep the ones you use.
- Test on a real phone on mobile data, not on office Wi-Fi. Google's free PageSpeed Insights will show you what slows the page down.
Speed is also something Google measures, so a lighter site helps you in search as well as with guests.
2. Make every room page answer the real questions
Guests booking in the hills ask the same things again and again on the phone. Put the answers on the room page so they don't have to call:
- Real, recent photos of that room: bed, bathroom, view from the window.
- Bed type and how many adults and children fit.
- Hot water (geyser or solar), heating in winter, power backup.
- Whether there is a lift or how many stairs, this matters a lot for elderly pilgrims.
- Wi-Fi and mobile network you can honestly expect.
- Meal plan options (EP, CP, MAP) explained in plain words.
Honest details reduce cancellations and bad reviews. If a room has no view, say so and price it accordingly.
3. Add a "How to reach us" page that helps
In the plains, a Google Maps pin is enough. In Uttarakhand it isn't. A good reach-us section includes:
- Distance and typical drive time from the nearest railway station, airport (Jolly Grant, Dehradun) and bus stand.
- Parking: how many cars, whether buses and tempo travellers can reach the gate.
- Last-mile notes: steep approach road, walk from the main road, landmark to look for.
- For Char Dham properties, where you sit on the route and which dham is the next stop.
For anything that changes (road closures, yatra registration, weather alerts) link to the official source rather than copying details that will go stale. Pilgrims can check registration on the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board's official site, and you avoid giving out-of-date advice.
4. Show prices the way guests think about them
Hotel prices in Uttarakhand move a lot: yatra season, long weekends, snow season in Mussoorie and Auli, and quiet monsoon months all behave differently. You don't need to publish a fixed rate card, but you should show the structure clearly:
- A "starting from" price per room type, with the season it applies to.
- What is included (taxes, breakfast, parking).
- Child and extra-bed policy.
- Your cancellation policy in two or three plain sentences.
A guest who can see a realistic range is far more likely to enquire than one who sees "Contact for price".
5. A booking path that works in three taps
The best hotel websites make the next step obvious on every page. Two routes work well together:
- A booking engine that shows live availability and takes a payment or a pay-at-hotel reservation. This captures guests who are ready to book now.
- A WhatsApp button with a pre-filled message ("Hi, I'd like to check availability for…"). Many Indian travellers, especially families and pilgrim groups, prefer to talk before paying.
If you use WhatsApp heavily, the official WhatsApp Business API lets you send booking confirmations, directions and check-in details automatically, so your front desk isn't typing the same message fifty times a day.
Whatever you choose, keep the form short: dates, guests, phone number. Ask for the rest later.
6. Get the basics of hotel SEO right
You don't need tricks, you need Google to understand what and where your property is:
- One clear title and description per page that names the place: "Hotel in Barkot on the Yamunotri route", not "Home".
- Hotel structured data (schema) with your address, phone, price range and photos.
- The same name, address and phone number on your website, your Google Business Profile and your OTA listings.
- A short, genuinely useful local guide (nearby temples, treks, the best time to visit) written by someone who knows the area.
Our SEO service covers this setup if you'd rather not do it yourself.
7. Keep the website and your bookings in one place
The quiet problem for many small hotels is that bookings arrive from everywhere (phone, WhatsApp, walk-ins, OTAs, the website) and live in a notebook. That's how double bookings and missed follow-ups happen.
Even a simple setup helps: every enquiry from the website and WhatsApp lands in one list with dates, phone number and status. That's the idea behind Pulp Hotels, our booking platform and partner portal for hotels in Haridwar, Rishikesh and the Char Dham route, and behind the CRM and automation work we do for individual properties.
A quick checklist before you launch or redesign
- Homepage loads quickly on mobile data
- Each room has real photos, capacity, hot water and heating details
- Reach-us page covers drive times, parking and last-mile notes
- Prices shown as a seasonal "from" range with inclusions
- Booking button and WhatsApp button visible on every page
- Name, address and phone match Google Business Profile and OTAs
- Every enquiry is recorded in one place
